Education
- Cyber Security (MSc), ETH Zürich (09/2026 - Present)
- Computer Engineering (BS), Boğaziçi University (09/2021 - 06/2026) - 3.94/4.00 GPA
- ERASMUS Exchange, Tilburg University (08/2023 - 01/2024) - Netherlands
Experience
- Internship - TÜBİTAK BİLGEM Software Technologies Research Institute (07/2025 - 08/2025)
- Developed an internal full-stack web application with a Java Spring Boot REST API backend and a Next.js frontend
- Secured the application with Spring Security, implementing session- and cookie-based authentication and role-based access control
- Set up PostgreSQL with Docker and Liquibase for version-controlled schema, and integrated SMTP in Java (Spring Boot’s JavaMailSender API) for automated emails
- Student Assistant in Intro. to Signal Processing - Boğaziçi University (02/2025 - 06/2025)
- Prepared projects on signal processing topics such as noise filtering with MATLAB
- Internship - Karel Electronics (06/2024 - 08/2024)
- Developed configurable Selenium bots in Python that browse sites such as Reddit, YouTube and Facebook to generate network traffic, plus a script that captures it as PCAP files
- Dockerized the bots and capture script, reducing overhead when running multiple instances
- Tested ML models for application classification on the generated network traffic using DPI techniques
- Implemented and documented the results of various anomaly detection algorithms on network intrusion detection using the PyOD library in Python
- Student Assistant in Intro. to Object Oriented Programming - Boğaziçi University (02/2024 - 06/2024)
- Mentored students in weekly Java labs, explaining OOP concepts and reviewing their code
- Involved in designing projects related to making games in Java using StdDraw
Projects
- Home Server - alibartukonca.org
- Repurposed an old laptop as a home server running Ubuntu Server, hosting a personal website with nginx and end-to-end HTTPS behind Cloudflare
- Configured Samba to use the server as network attached storage, and set up a WireGuard VPN for secure remote access to the server and the storage
- Configured router port forwarding to route incoming HTTPS and WireGuard VPN traffic to the server
- Enabled Wake-on-LAN on the desktop computer and installed etherwake on the server, so the server can power on the desktop with a single command
